"I will immediately shutdown Operation Chokepoint 2.0"

Trump, if President, pledges to form a Bitcoin Reserve, using 210,000 Bitcoin seized by the Department of Justice, as the core of a new “Strategic National Bitcoin Stockpile.”

In the sixteen months since, we have seen a seismic shift in attitudes towards crypto from both Independents and Republicans; while Democrats continue to demonize the sovereign currency.

Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. praised the role Bitcoin could play in improving the US economy and the American way of life as he spoke to an audience at the Bitcoin 2024 conference on July 26. He promised to sign a number of executive orders on his first day in office to begin the process.

Kennedy would sign an order requiring the US Justice Department and US Marshalls to transfer the 204,000 Bitcoin held by the US to the Federal Reserve to be held as a “strategic asset,” he said.

Furthermore, Kennedy said he would also order the Treasury Department to purchase 500 Bitcoin daily until the reserve reaches at least four million BTC.

Yesterday, gold dropped $62.20 an ounce and silver dropped $1.35 an ounce. As of this writing, gold has bounced back over $30 per ounce and has rebounded above its 50-day moving average and continues to be well above its 200-day moving average. Both averages are what money managers and professional traders follow.

Silver has not bounced back and is down five cents per ounce this morning and is between its 50-day moving average and its 200-day moving average. Silver has always been more volatile and speculative than gold. I believe silver will resume its uptrend and for those who are silver bulls this may be an opportunity to initiate a position or add to a current position.

The decline in the metals yesterday was precipitated by a stronger than expected second quarter GDP number and a stronger than expected durable goods number for June.

This morning the Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) number for June showed a .1% increase and a year-over-year increase of 2.5% getting closer to the Fed’s 2% inflation target. The PCE is the Fed’s favorite inflation gauge. These numbers buoyed gold.

For a long time, anybody paying attention knew that central banks printing fiat money out of thin air, then lending it to nation states at interest and blowing it out into the economy would inexorably, eventually lead to such wealth disparity that the society would break down.

Gold and silver each retreated in price today with silver down about 3% to and gold down about .25%. The significance of the gold drop is not the change from yesterday’s close. The significance is that it reached an all-time high then reversed over $25 per ounce. Buy the dip!

The equity markets were mixed with the more tech-oriented S+P 500 down over 1% and NASDAQ down over 2% due to potential tariffs in a Trump administration, his statement that Taiwan would have to pay for its own defense, and a rotation out of tech stocks. And… in an interview Biden recorded on Tuesday with the BET network he said he would leave the race if a doctor or doctors said he had a medical condition and could not continue. My guess is that he has a medical condition and will release the report as the fall back to leaving the race if needed.

One of the best-known contrarian indicators, financial journalists, the “buy at the top and sell at the bottom” crowd did not disappoint today. Weren’t they the group not too long ago that said Nvidia was going to be a multi-trillion stock among other sage comments?

The Fed’s Beige Book which was released today and reports economic activity from the Fed’s 12 reserve banks showed slowing economic activity over the next six months in part due to election uncertainty. The report is released every six weeks. Earlier this week Fed Chairman Jerome Powell said that the Fed may be looking to lower interest rates sooner rather than later.
